Stockton, Calif. – The California Sunbirds fell in the second game of their double-header with the visiting Texas Thunder, 5-0, in a game that took two days to complete due to massive blackouts.

With the loss the Sunbirds fell to 3-2 on the season while the Thunder improved to 3-2.

A weird finish and a 21 hour delay to day one did not seem to have any effect on the Thunder as they coasted to victory in game two of the three game series. The Sunbird’s bats were quieted as they were only allowed one hit in the game off Thunder starter, Christa Williams. A complete turn around from game one when California scored four runs on six hits. Williams used the blackout and delay to reenergize as she recorded four of her nine strikeouts during her three innings of work after the game was resumed.

The Sunbirds only threat of the game came in the third inning, as they were able to load the bases with two outs in the inning, but Williams was too much for California to handle. She induced an inning ending ground ball, getting Sunbird third basemen, Jaime Foutch, out on her front foot with a changeup that she weakly grounded to second.

Texas jumped out early and often on Sunbirds’ starter, Kristen Voak, as they promptly got three straight singles in the opening inning to plate their first run. Lindsey Gardner drove in the first of her three RBI’s with a perfect bunt down the line to score Kristen Zaleski. Zaleski led all hitters on the day going 4-for-4 with two runs scored. The Thunder broke the game open in the third inning as Zaleski and Gardner doubled to start the inning in which Texas dented the plate twice. Gardner finished 3-for-4 on the game.

The two teams will complete their series with a rubber game tonight, Sunday, June 6.
