Allentown, Pa. - The Philadelphia Force have announced the signing of Meghan Wolfer, a 2007 graduate of Penn State University. The speedy,slap-hitting outfielder started all 40 games for the Nittany Lions and posted a .299 batting average in her senior year. She led the team in sacrifices three straight years.
Wolfer will be initially assigned to the Force's developmental squad for the 2008 season.
“We are very excited at having aplayer of Meghan's talent on our Development Squad and I wouldn't be surprised at all if she actually makes the 20 Player Roster. She is a Local product and one that many people in the Lehigh Valley knows all about, especially her past accomplishments", Tom Kleinman owner/general manager of the Force.
Wolfer was a four-year starter for Allentown Central Catholic where she was an All-EPC Conference, All Area, and PA Coaches Association All-State selection. Her team was district runner up to Nazareth in her junior year. Wolfer also captained the volleyball team and was on CCHS' first state title team.
Wolfer has also played summer ball for the Lehigh Valley Extreme under Ed Stinner and for the Lady Gators under Matt Wolf.
She enjoyed a standout college career at Penn State where she started a total of 179 games. Wolfer earned second team All-Big Ten accolades as a freshman in 2004. During her breakout freshman year, she batted .318, which was good for second on that team. Her junior year was highlighted by a seven game hitting streak, and compiled nine multiple hit games while making 53 appearances.
