INDIA CHILES, 2007 SEC PLAYER OF THE YEAR, TO PLAY FOR THE RACERS

Akron, OH---- Joey Arrietta announced today that India Chiles, one of the nation’s premier hitters this past spring, has inked a contract to play for the Akron Racers in 2008. Chiles, a third round selection in the 2007 NPF Draft, sat out the 2007 NPF season due to an injury. “I visited with India this past fall and I am really excited to have her join our squad this summer,” noted Arrietta.

Statistically, Chiles has an impressive resume including a career .417 batting average in 256 total games played for the University of Tennessee. Chiles was one of only a handful of athletes to record back-to-back .400+ batting averages. She posted a .437 in 2006 followed by an incredible .459 performance in 2007. Her .459 mark was the 4th best performance in the nation this past year. In her four-year career, the left-handed slap-hitting specialist has scored 157 runs and swiped 85 bases.

Chiles captured the 2007 SEC Player of the Year award after posting an almost unbelievable 2007 season. Her list of honors include 2007 First-Team Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-American, 2007 First-Team NFCA All-South Region, First-Team All-SEC and a four-time ESPN the Magazine All-Academic selection.

Chiles is the fourth SEC Player of the Year honoree to play for the Racers. Outfielder, Trena Peel, LSU, (2002), outfielder, Iyhia McMichael, Mississippi State (2003, 2004) and catcher Kristen Butler, the University of Florida (2006) have also been tapped for the SEC’s top honor.
