Kimberly, Wisconsin -- The New England Riptide and Washington Glory battled it out for the right to be the first team to advance to the championship round. The two teams were deadlocked at 1-1, when the Glory scored the decisive run on a Riptide miscue to win 2-1.
The Glory scored first, in the second inning when Nichole Thompson tripled to right, and Callie Piper hit a long sacrifice fly to center to drive Thompson home. The Riptide answered with one of their own in the top of the third, when Carri Martin singled home Shanel Scott who had reached on an infield single to lead off the inning.
The Riptide meets the Rockford Thunder Sunday at 12:00CDT, the loser being eliminated, and the winner advancing to the final round, needing two consecutive wins over the Glory.
