Allentown, Pa. - The Philadelphia Force were defeated by the New England Riptide, 5-0, Saturday night at ECTB Stadium. The Force and Riptide are now tied in the standings with 24-19 records. They play the final regular season game Sunday afternoon at 1:05 p.m. The winner of that game will earn a playoff berth.
The Riptide got things started right out of the gate. Shanel Scott led off the game with a single and advanced to second on a Force throwing error. An infield single by Jackie Pasquerella put runners at first and third. A Margo Pruis pitch to Lyndsey Angus was in the dirt and blocked by Ashley Smith, but Pasquerella would take second. Angus then followed by lining a double down the left field line to give the Riptide the quick 2-0 advantage.
In the third, Scott led off the inning with her second hit of the game. She quickly stole second base. Pasquerella bounced a ball to Chelsea Spencer but her throw to first base got away and Scott scored from second for the third Riptide run.
The Riptide would tack on two more in the fifth. With one out, Angus slammed a home run to left center field to make it 4-0. Carri Leto-Martin followed Angus by singling and stealing second base. She scored on a single by Tarrah Beyster to complete the scoring.
Jocelyn Forest (4-5) pitched the complete game for the win. She allowed five hits and struck out nine.
Pruis (5-6) pitched 5 2/3 and struck out three batters. Jodie Cox completed the game for the Force by pitching scoreless, hitless ball.
Five different batters had singles for the Force. Emily Friedman, Trena Peel, Jenna Hall, Spencer, and Ashley Smith had the hits in the game. Burnum also reached base by getting hit with her sixth pitch of the season.
The final game is Sunday. The Force have to win Sundays game to qualify for the NPF playoffs.
