Bandits Season Ends With Impressive 4-0 Win

LISLE, Ill. - The Comcast Chicago Bandits closed the books on the 2007 season with a stirring 4-0 victory over arch rival Rockford Thunder in front of a standing room only crowd of 2,412. The Bandits ended the year with a record of 23-21 while the Thunder fell to 24-20.

The Bandits came out on fire tonight scoring two runs in just the first inning. Vicky Galindo led things off with an infield single and proceeded to steal second, placing herself in scoring position. Lindsay Schutzler followed with a walk. With one down and runners on first and second, Kristie Fox ripped a single to right scoring Galindo while advancing Schutzler to third. Thunder catcher, Mackenzie Vandergeest tried to make a play on Fox as she stole second but ended up airmailing the throw to center allowing Schutzler to dash home.

Chicago added single runs in the third and in the fifth innings. In the third frame, Stacy May, who had reached on an infield single, came around to score by virtue of a throwing error. In the fifth, Schutzler reached on a walk and stole both second and third, eventually scoring on a wild pitch by Thunder ace, Cat Osterman.

In five innings pitched, the Bandits roughed up Osterman with five hits and four runs (two earned). Osterman struck out eight but also walked four batters and was victimized by two Thunder errors.

Jessica Sallinger on the other hand was sterling for the Bandits, tossing the complete game shutout to earn her ninth victory of the season. In her seven innings of work, Sallinger struck out seven and walked just one while not permitting a hit until the seventh inning.

The win over Rockford gave the Bandits three of the four games of the series. Chicago also won four of its last five games as it closed out 2007 on a positive note and left everyone eager for the 2008 season to begin.
