Bandits Take Opener from Racers

LISLE, Ill. - When it came to offense for Akron (19-14) it was like a game of Clue…the Butler did it. Other than the lone fifth inning single by the Racers Kristin Butler, the game belonged to the Bandits (18-15) Jennie Finch who had double digit strikeout totals with 13.

Finch won her fifth consecutive game since the season opening loss to Rockford and once again did not allow a run. Finch lowered her earned run average to a miniscule 0.16 and upped her team leading strikeout totals to 79 against just six walks.

Bandit bats produced the only runs of the game in their half of the first inning. Vicky Galindo led off with a free pass to first. Lindsay Schutzler reached first on an unsuccessful sacrifice attempt when Galindo was forced out at second. Schutzler was able to steal second on a passed ball to place herself in scoring position. Kristie Fox hit an infield single to short advancing Schutzler to third. Jaime Clark followed with a slap just to the right of the pitcher. Alicia Hollowell gloved it but was unable to make the play giving the home team their first run of the day. Stacy May ripped a double to right center scoring Fox from second and advancing Clark to third. With Finch at the plate, Clark came home on a wild pitch.

The Racers got their first and only hit of the game in the fifth inning off of a Kristen Butler single just past the infield dirt. Butler’s pinch runner, Sara Zilles, stole second and advanced to third off of a sacrifice bunt by Kristin Johnson. Akron was unable to capitalize stranding their only runner of the game.

The Bandits offense was led by Jaime Clark who went 2 for 3 with one run scored and one RBI. Teammate Stacy May was 2 for 3 and also drove in one run as well.

Racers pitcher Alicia Hollowell took the loss (1-4) going the complete game and giving up all three earned runs. Hollowell struck out three but walked three batters as well.

The Bandits the will continue their series against Akron tomorrow at 7:05 pm.
