Thunder Errors Give Washington 2-1 Win

Fairfax, VA – The Washington Glory took advantage off six walks issued by Cat Osterman and two costly errors to defeat the Rockford Thunder, 2-1, on Saturday night at the George Mason Softball Complex.

Kelly Kretschman drove in the game-tying run with a triple down the right field line, the Glory's only base hit of the game. Nichole Thompson, who reached on an error to lead off the sixth inning, scored the game-winner.

The Thunder struck first in the top of the fifth to take a 1-0 lead. Amanda Williams led off the inning with a double to left field, just over the outstretched arms of rightfielder Nicole Barber. De De Justice followed with a sac bunt to pitcher, Sarah Pauly, advancing Williams to third. Pauly got Jamie Davison to pop out but allowed a single to Kristen Zaleski in the next at bat, which scored Williams.

Washington struck back in their half of the inning as Jessica Moore started the rally with a one-out walk. On a 1-0 offering, Kretschman drilled a shot down the right field line, which scored the speedy Moore from first.

The Glory would take the lead in the sixth on a pair of errors by the Thunder. Thompson led off the inning reaching on an error by the shortstop, Davison. Catalina Morris then sacrificed her over to second with a bunt to the first baseman. Callie Piper then reached on Osterman's sixth walk of the night. With Moore now up, catcher MacKenzie Vandergeest threw to second base, attempting to catch Thompson dancing between second and third. The throw was wild, bounced into right center, and allowed Thompson to score the game-winning run.

Pauly collected her 12th win of the season, ranking her second in the league behind teammate Desiree Serrano. On just 71 pitches, Pauly threw 47 for strikes in her six innings of work. Monica Abbott came into the game in the seventh and retired the side, for her first professional save.

The Glory wraps up their home portion of the 2007 Inaugural Season tomorrow afternoon at 3:05 pm. Tickets are still available for the game three of the series but are going fast. Fans may purchase tickets by calling 703.362.4464 or they may buy them at the gate.
