ROCKFORD, Ill. The Thunder (24-12) left 11 runners on base, but they managed to come up with the only two runs in the game, as they knocked off China 2-0 in the team's home finale.
The Thunder had chances to score in several innings, but waited until the sixth to push across its runs. Amanda Williams started the inning off with a clean single to left field and was moved to second base after a walk to Jamie Davison. Davison saw 16 pitches in the at-bat before earning the free pass. Erin Evans reached on an infield single to load the bases. After a fielder's choice by Kristen Zaleski, Serena Settlemier drew a bases loaded walk to push in the first run and Amanda Freed delivered the second with a sacrifice fly to right field.
Freed continued to deliver the RBIs as she had five in the four-game series with Team China. The RBIs moved her total to seven on the season.
Serena Settlemier went the distance for the Thunder allowing just two hits in the game. She allowed a double in the second inning and a single in the sixth inning, but no runners came in to score.
With the win, Settlemier improved to 10-5 on the season and lowered her ERA to a league-best 0.95.
The Thunder will now hit the road for the final eight regular season games of the year, beginning with next week's trip to Washington, D.C. to take on the Glory. Rockford will play Washington for four games and Philadelphia for two exhibition games before returning to Illinois.
Cat Osterman will rejoin the team after missing all of July due to National Team commitments. Osterman is expected to start in the circle for the Thunder against fellow Olympic team pitcher Monica Abbott.
