Thunder Knocks Off Bandits in 11th Inning

ROCKFORD, Ill. – For the third time this season the Rockford Thunder knocked off the Chicago Bandits in extra innings, this time in the 11th by a final score of 1-0.

Both teams had plenty of chances to score in the game, as each team left ten runners on base, but the pitching of Serena Settlemier and Jessica Sallinger kept the game scoreless.

Chicago (13-15) had probably the best chance to score early on, but a perfect relay from Erin Evans to Lindsay Gardner to Mackenzie Vandergeest prevented the Bandits runner from scoring. The Bandits players and coaches felt the runner, Caitlyn Lever, was safe on the play and argued the call. During the arguing Bandits second baseman Laura Harms was ejected from the game.

Rockford (19-9) would score only run of the game in the 11th after they loaded the bases. Amanda Freed, who was 0-for-4 before the at-bat, drilled a pitch into left field for the game-winning RBI.

Settlemier improved to 8-3 on the season with the win and she lowered her league-best ERA to 0.88. The Thunder also gave them a 8-4 series advantage of the Bandits with one four-game series remaining.

The Thunder will be back in action on Thursday night when they host the first-place Washington Glory. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. at Sportscore One.
