Allentown, Pa. - The Philadelphia Force (6-6) prepared for their upcoming series with the New England Riptide by hosting the China National Team in a non-NPF game Tuesday night. The Force beat China by a score of 6-3. The Force has previously taken four NPF games from China.
Second baseman Emily Friedman slammed a two-run home run in the sixth inning. She had opened the scoring in the first inning by leading off with a base hit. She moved to second on a bunt single by center fielder Stacie Pestrak. Two wild pitches later, Friedman had the first Force run.
Starting pitcher Stacy Birk had the first Force RBI on the night, a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning. Two other runs in the fourth came courtesy of a wild pitch, and a passed ball.
Birk went the first four innings in the circle. She scattered four hits, and struck out three.
Trena Peel made her first pitching appearance of the year by replacing Birk in the fifth. She pitched two innings and struck out two batters. Kristina Thorson pitched a 1-2-3 seventh inning for the save.
Left fielder Megan McAllister was on base two out of three times with two singles and right fielder Jaime Dacey was on base twice with a single and a walk.
Regulars Kellie Wilkerson, Jenna Hall, Sharonda McDonald, and Clare Burnum were given the night off as the Force departs for Lowell, Massachusetts early Wednesday morning. The Force will play the Riptide in a four game set in Lowell, before returning to ECTB Stadium on Wednesday, July 4 to face the same Riptide team. The Force will be giving out glow sticks at the 7:05 p.m. Independence Day game.
