Glory Uses Long Ball To Defeat Venezuela, 6-2

Fairfax, VA - All of the Glory's six runs came as a result of home runs as
Washington defeated Venezuela, 6-2 on Wednesday night, at the George Mason
Softball Complex. Sara Larquier hit her fourth home run of the season, which is tied for the team lead while Nichole Thompson hit her third bomb of the year.

The Glory took a 3-0 lead after the second inning on Thompson's three-run blast. Amber Jackson had led off the inning with a single to left, and promptly stole second. After Larquier was issued a free pass, Thompson took the first pitch from Mariela Espinoza deep into the trees in right center.

Washington got another three runs in the third, this time by another three-run shot, but by Larquier. Kelly Kretschman, who was not batting leadoff for the first time all season, connected on a two-out double to get it started. After Jackson walked, Espinoza's first offering again was taken deep, as Larquier hit a towering shot over the scoreboard in right. Espinoza was taken out later that inning after consecutive singles by Stephanie Best and Thompson.

Sarah Pauly (5-1) got the win for the Glory, allowing just one run on three hits, in 6.2 innings of work. The Phoenix, AZ, native, also fanned nine batters while walking none. Jen Musillo allowed one run on one hit, while walking two in relief.

Once Espinoza was taken out, the Glory struggled to get anything going against relief pitcher, Marianella Castellanos. In her 3.1 innings of work, Washington manged just two hits, both in the seventh inning off the bats of Nicole Barber and Jen Chamberlin.

Washington (11-2) will host Venezuela again tomorrow night at 7:05 pm. Tickets are still available at
