Pauly Tosses Shutout in Glory 3-0 Win

Fairfax, Va. - Pitcher Sarah Pauly shut down the Chinese National Team
for the Glory, as Washington defeated Team China, 3-0 on Saturday night at the George Mason Softball Complex. Pauly pitched a complete game shutout, allowing just three hits, while striing out nine, in her seven innings of work.

Pauly and China starting pitcher, Wang lan, were stuck in a pitchers duel until the bottom of the fourth inning. Oli Keohohou doubled to left center for the Glory and was ran for by former Liberty Flame, Jessica Moore. With two outs, on a 1-2 count, Stephanie Best hammered a shot over the left field wall to take a 2-0 lead. The blast was Best's second home run of the season.

Washington would add another run in their half of the fifth. LaDonia Hughes reached safely on a two base fielders choice, as pinch hitter Nicole Barber was forced out at second. A wild pitch allowed Hughes to advance to third. Kelly Kretchman followed Hughes with a walk and promptly stole second base, putting two runners in scoring position for Catalina Morris. Morris lined a fly ball to the warning track in right, which was caught, but allowed Hughes to score the final run.

Best was the only Glory player to record multiple hits on the night. Morris, Keohohou, Barber, and Nichole Thompson added the others.

All three of China's base hits came in the fourth inning, but great defense prevented a run from scoring.

The same two teams will close out their four game set on Sunday, at 3:05 pm. The Glory will host Venezuela in a four game set, starting Thursday at 7:05 pm. Tickets are still available for each game.
