ROCKFORD, Ill. The Rockford Thunder of National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) and General Manager Aaron M. Moore announced today that they have signed catcher Mackenzie Vandergeest to a contract for the 2007 season. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Vandergeest, who played her college ball at the University of Arizona, originally came to the Thunder via a trade made with the Chicago Bandits on October 16. Also acquired in the trade were Amanda and Jessica Williams, who each signed with the Thunder on November 21, and Missy Beseres, a pitcher who is expected to sign in the next couple of weeks.
We are thrilled to have a player and person like Mackenzie on board for our inaugural season in Rockford, said Moore. We have heard nothing but good things about her and I know our pitching staff is looking forward to what she can do behind the plate.
The two-year veteran saw action in 27 games in 2006 with the Bandits and collected three home runs and 12 runs batted in. She hit one home run in limited action during her 2006 rookie season.
I am looking forward to this opportunity in Rockford, exclaimed Vandergeest. They are putting a lot of faith in my abilities as a player, and I cant wait to get up there and get to work.
