TUCSON, ARIZ The Arizona Heat won their second straight game against the Michigan Ice, coming from behind to win 3-2. The Heat came into the game just 1-22 when trailing after five innings, but used a two run sixth to come out ahead. Leslie Wolfe hurled a complete game to pick up her seventh victory of the season.
Wolfe, who had not pitched since July 28th looked very sharp early on, striking out three of the first four hitters she faced. She finished the game with five strikeouts, and allowed just two runs one earned on six hits. Jenny Mackson took the loss for the Ice, despite holding the Heat to just one run in her first five innings. She allowed three runs two earned on nine hits in a complete game.
The Ice struck first in the top of the second inning on a RBI single by Amanda Jensen. Grete Hornstrom reached on an infield single and was advanced on a sacrifice bunt. She would score on Jensens two-out hit, giving the Ice a 1-0 lead.
Michigan extended their lead in the fourth when Genny Hann knocked home Auriel Jenkins with a single up the middle. The Heat would get one back in the bottom of the inning to cut the lead in half. Kaleo Eldredge led off with a single and advanced to second on an April Valdez bunt. Jackie Coburn followed with a single to right, scoring Eldredge.
The game would move into the bottom of the sixth, with the Heat still trailing 2-1. Eldredge started the inning with a leadoff walk. Coburn drew a walk putting two runners on board before Crystal Farley drop a RBI single down the leftfield line to tie the game at two. On the next pitch, Farley broke for second forcing Nikki Conway into an errant throw and allowing the go-ahead run to score from third.
Wolfe used two great defensive plays, including a game ending double play to retire the Ice in the seventh.
Jackie Coburn and Crystal Farley had two hits and a RBI apiece for the Heat. Kaleo Eldredge added a hit and scored twice, while Catalina Morris stole her seventh base of the season.
Amanda Jensen led the Ice offense, finishing two for three with a RBI. Genny Hann delivered the other run scoring hit for the Ice, a single in the fourth.
The Heat and Ice will be back at it tomorrow night at Hi Corbett Field for the third game of the series starting at 7 pm.
