Lisle, Ill. In front of the largest crowd of the season, the Chicago Bandits took on the Connecticut Brakettes for the final Bandit home game of the year. Jessica Sallinger started for the Bandits and Nikki Myers took the mound for the Brakettes.
The Connecticut Brakettes came out with a bang in the top of the first inning. Kelly Kretschman got the game going with a lead off double. Kellie Wilkerson hit a roper to right center. Wilkerson tried to take two but was thrown out, however Kretschman was able to score on the play. Jessica Merchant stepped up to the plate and rocked a solo homerun over the left field fence, giving the Brakettes the 2-0 lead. Merchant has hit two homeruns against the Bandits in this series.
The Brakettes continued their scoring in the top of the third. Wilkerson led off with a double to left. Germaine Fairchild reached first on an error by second baseman, Anne Steffan. Wilkerson was able to score on the error.
The Bandits managed to load the bases without getting a hit in the bottom of the fourth. Unfortunately, they couldnt get the hit they so desperately needed to bring in their first run of the game.
The Bandits got their first hit of the game in the bottom of the fifth off of a Jaime Clark blooper to left. However, the Bandits were unable to bring her home, leaving them scoreless heading into the top of the sixth.
With only two hits throughout the game, the Bandits couldnt muster enough
offense to shorten the three run gap and took loss. This brings the black and orange to 27-9 on the season. The Bandits will hit the road to take on the Philadelphia Force August 13th through August 16th. The last time these two teams squared off the Bandits took the series 3-1.
