Mackenzie Vandergeest's Solo Homerun Puts the Brakes on Connecticut

After a rain delay of one hour and 30 minutes, the top two teams in the NPF were able to square off for game two of the four game series tonight. With a record of 6-3, Gina Oaks took the mound for the orange and black. Nikki Myers, with a record of 7-3, started in the circle for the Brakettes.

The Bandits put their first run up on the board in the bottom of the third inning with some help from the Brakettes. Mackenzie Vandergeest led off with a walk. Vandergeest turned up the speed and stole second on a passed ball. Trena Peel advanced Vandergeest to third on an infield chopper to second. Vandergeest made her way home on a wild pitch by Nikki Myers.

It was the Bandits turn for homeruns tonight as Mackenzie Vandergeest blasted a 260 foot solo shot into the left field stands in the bottom of the fifth inning, making the score 2-0.

The Brakettes were knocking on the Bandit’s door in the top of the seventh. In a play looking very similar to one the night before, Bandit pitcher Jessica Sallinger intentionally walked Kelly Kretschman, to make it bases loaded for the Brakettes. Much like the Bandits last night, the Brakettes couldn’t manage to close the gap and get the win.

The final score on the night was 2-1, making the Bandits 26-8 on the season and strengthening their number one standing in the NPF. Don’t miss it when these two very talented teams meet up again for the third game of the series tomorrow night at 7:05 pm.
