Lisle, Ill. The series finale between the Chicago Bandits and the USA World University Team was eventful to say the least. Both teams went through three pitchers throughout the course of the game, proving that the batters were on for both teams today.
The bottom of the third inning was filled with highs and lows for the Bandits. Anne Steffan got on with a single. She stole second and while sliding in head first was injured. Steffan shook off the pain and was able to stay on second. Stacy May stepped up and launched a two run homer over the leftfield fence; this was Mays first homerun of the season.
Team USA battled back in the top of the fourth starting with Kristie Fox making it to first on a fielding error by shortstop, Jaime Clark. Fox stole second. Samantha Findlay was hit by a pitch. Tina Boutelle shot a high fly ball to right, advancing Fox to third. With runners on first and third, Lindsay Schutzler singled, scoring Fox and advancing Jackie Rinehart, Findlays pinch runner, to second. Showing their speed, Schutzler and Rinehart stole second and third respectively. With runners in scoring position, Lauren Lappin ripped a single to left, scoring both Rinehart and Schutzler. Lappin was able to advance to second on the play. Norrelle Dickson got into the action by blasting a triple to left center, bringing Lappin in to score. The Bandits brought in Missy Beseres, a pitcher that hasnt seen much time this season due to an injury. Beseres has one win and three saves to her name so far this season. The Bandit pitching change did not stopTeam USA from scoring. Sarah Fekete shot a single to center and brought in Dickson, Team USAs fifth and final run of the inning.
The Bandits tried to fight back in the bottom of the fourth inning. Trena Peel hit a blazer to second and made it safely to first due to a bobble by second baseman, Kristie Fox. Amanda Williams had a hot bat this afternoon and hit a single to left allowing Peel to advance to second. Both Williams and Peel advanced 60 feet closer to home when Mackenzie Vandergeest grounded out to the pitcher. With runners on second and third, Laura Harms hit a grounder to third, Peel made a break for home and was safe due to a wild throw to the catcher.
The Bandits were only one run down as they headed into the bottom of the fifth. With two outs, Selena Collins shot a double into center. Peel followed by hitting a single to right bringing Collins pinch runner, Jessica Williams home.
After all the effort the Bandits put forth in the last few innings, they still couldnt pull a win out this afternoon. This 6-4 loss brings the Bandits record to 23-7 on the season. Sallinger will be charged for the loss making her record 0-2. The Bandits will take on the Michigan Ice for the next four game homestand. The last time these two teams faced the Bandits swept the series.
