LEAGUE CITY, Texas After the first inning the Thunder and Team USA played six scoreless innings, but it was a first inning run that decided the game for the U.S. National Team and they beat Texas 1-0 on Friday
Team USA got on the board in the top half of the first inning on the only mistakes the Thunder would make all night long. Speedy Caitlin Lowe got on base to lead off the first inning when she hit a ball to Clare Burnum at third base. Burnum threw wide of first for the only error of the game. She would come around to score after moving to second base on a sacrifice bunt by Natasha Watley and an RBI single by Andrea Duran.
That would be the only run of the game for either side and Team USA beat the Thunder 1-0.
Pitching was the real story on Friday night at Big League Dreams for both teams. Serena Settlemier got the start in the circle for the Thunder and she lasted five innings before giving way to Nicole Neuerburg and Christa Williams who each went a scoreless inning. Settlemier gave up just three hits in the game, but picked up the loss to fall to 2-5 on the season.
Cat Osterman was in the circle for Team USA and struck out 16 hitters in the game to pick up the win. She allowed a Danyele Gomez in the second inning, but cruised through the rest of the game to seal the victory.
The Thunder will resume their series with Team USA tomorrow afternoon for a doubleheader that begins at 3 p.m. Gates will open at 1:30 p.m. for the first game, with the second game scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. General admission tickets are available for the remaining games at the gate for $15 each.
