Thunder Get Run in First and Seventh; Beat Arizona 2-1

Game Box Score

LEAGUE CITY, Texas – The Texas Thunder of National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) beat the Arizona Heat 2-1 in their final at-bat of the game to improve to 9-4 on the season. The loss drops the Heat to 5-8 in the young season.

Staff ace Christa Williams went the distance for Texas allowing just three hits and one unearned in the game. She struck out six on the night to improve to a perfect 5-0 on the season. Williams took a no-hitter into the sixth innings, but that was broken up on a single by Heat second baseman Nichole Thompson.

Williams and the Thunder held a 1-0 lead going into the seventh inning, but Arizona would use a single by LaDonia Hughes and a triple by April Valdez to tie the game at 1-1.

In the bottom half of the inning the Thunder wasted little time getting on the board. Kristen Zaleski tripled to left-center field to lead off the frame and Lindsay Gardner knocked her in on a single to centerfield.

Gardner was involved in the scoring all night for Texas. She scored the games first run after singling to right field and eventually knocked in on a double by National Team member Amanda Freed.

The Heat's Desiree Serrano took the loss for Arizona falling to 3-2 on the season. Serrano went 6-plus innings, allowing nine hits and the two earned runs.
