ARKON - Inclement weather once again postponed play for the Philadelphia Force and the Akron Racers in the opening series of the 2006 National Pro Fastpitch season. Wednesday's game was suspended in the top of the sixth inning and was to be resumed Thursday prior to playing a complete seven-inning game. Neither the suspended game nor Thursday's regularly schedule contest will be played Thursday, June 1.
In order to complete the halted game and make-up Thursday's postponement the following schedule has been set:
Friday, June 2: The suspended game will start play in the top of the sixth inning beginning at 6 p.m. Friday's game will then be played, as scheduled, 20 minutes after the halted game is finished. Fans who attended Wednesday's game can re-enter Firestone Stadium so long as they have their ticket stubs. New tickets must be purchased in order to stay for the second game.
Saturday, June 3: Thursday's postponed game will be played on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. The stadium will then be cleared for the night-cap of the day/night doubleheader. The second game will start at 7:05 p.m.
The Racers and Force were able to complete five scoreless innings Wednesday evening before bad weather entered the area. Jamie Southern took the mound for Akron and threw no-hit ball, allowing only one base runner on a hit-by-pitch. Philadelphia's Jennifer Stewart gave up one hit and two walks in five innings.
