Three in a Row

Houston, Texas- The Texas Thunder took their third straight from the Akron Racers and two-time Olympic gold medalist Christa Williams returned to the winners circle with her league leading 17th win as the Texas Thunder eased past the Akron Racers 3-2 at the Big League Dreams ball park in League City. The game was not without drama though as the Racers would put runners on the corners in the 7th and Team USA and Racer outfielder Kelly Kretschman hit a towering fly ball to center that appeared to be a go ahead three run homer. Texas Thunder All-Star center fielder, Kristen Zaleski, would make her second spectacular play of the night, racing to the wall and stealing away a potential Racers’ victory. After the long second out by Kretschman, Hilary Puglia would ground out to Amanda Freed to seal the Thunder victory and moving them to 35-11 on the year.

Texas Thunder got the scoring started in the second as Clare Burnum would reach on and infield single, Karrie Rider would sacrifice her over to second and Crystl Bustos would commit her second error in the inning on an errant throw to first and into right field, scoring the speedy Burnum. The Racers would jump back in the fourth, with a double from first baseman Nicole Trimboli, her first of two hits on the evening, and she rode home two pitches later on a hard hit single by rightfielder Lindsey Bashor.

In the fifth Amanda Freed would flex her muscle and drive a hard liner up the middle, off of Racer reliever Amy Kyler, driving in Julie Watson and Adrian Gregory that would give the Thunder the lead for good. It was Kristen Zaleski heroics in the seventh that would eventually shut down the powerful Racer attack and seal the victory in front of a sell out crowd for Williams and the Thunder.

The Texas Thunder wrap up the regular season Sunday as they prepare for their second consecutive NPF playoff appearance. University of Texas All-American and Team USA team member Cat Osterman, will join many of her current teammates tomorrow at the “friendly confines” as she will throw out the ceremonial first pitch. Be on hand as the game will startr at 1pm sharp.
