Lowell, MA- Danielle Henderson, Tammy Nielsen and Leigh Ann Ellis combined to fire a no hitter as the New England Riptide easily handled the Long Island Angels 9-0 last night at Martin Field. Only two runners reached base for the Angels, both on two out walks. Danielle Henderson pitched the first three innings for the Tide walking one and striking out five to increase her total to 127, second in the NPF. Tammy Nielsen pitched the next three innings to get the win, her second since joining the Riptide two weeks ago. Leigh Ann Ellis pitched the seventh and struck out the side.
The Tide did most of their damage in the second, putting the game out of reach
early. Stephanie Best led off with a double into the left center gap. After Ashley
Moore flied out to center, allowing Best to take third, Haverhill's Sara Jewett
singled through the middle to score Best for the first run of the game. Lisa Iancin
reached on an error by 2nd basemand Michell Baca, Jewett taking second. The error would prove costly.
Ashley Courtney's single scored Jewett for the Riptide's second run and after Kristine Botto hit into a fielders choice, Jess Merchant belted her first home run of the year, a huge shot high over the right center wall to give the
Tide a 5-0 lead.
The Tide later added two in the fourth on hits by Iancin, Botto and Angus and two
more in the fifth when Best led off with a triple and was batted in by Moore who
later scored the ninth run on a wild pitch.
