Bandits Win Series Only Allowing One Run

Lisle, Ill – The Chicago Bandits waited until the very last inning of the series to give the St. Louis Saints their one and only run for the 5-1 victory. Capping off the four game weekend, the Bandits earned a combined 24 runs against the one Saints run.

Jennie Finch started the game off in the circle for the Bandits for three innings with 6 strikeouts an only allowing one. Due to the intense heat, the Bandits coaches made a wise decision to rotate pitchers to keep them refreshed. Lindsay Chouiard saw 2 innings as did Amy Harre, in which they each struck out 3 and gave up one hit.

The action began to roll in the top of the second inning when Saints’ Jen Bruck became the first base runner of the game with a walk from Bandit pitcher Jennie Finch. Natalie Peters drove the ball to the left side to put runners on first and second. Andrea Mitchell attempted to lay down a bunt but was the ball was caught, before reaching the ground, by third baseman Vicky Galindo.

As Selena Collins stepped up to the plate for the Bandits against pitcher Melissa Massey, she launched the ball to deep left field that just tipped off of Kim Palmers glove to bring Collins around to second base. After Venus Taylor came in to run, Christina Enea walked to create a force at three. Megan Ciolli flew out to rightfield but advanced Taylor to third.

Although the Bandits did not take advantage of their opportunity, they blasted their way through the third inning by scoring four runs.

In the bottom of the third inning, Anne Steffan pulled off a drag bunt back to the pitcher who threw it to first. The throw bounced off the glove of Ashley Heady who was covering first and allowed Steffan to move over to second.

Vicky Galindo hit a double in the gap of right field to bring Steffan home, for the Bandits first run, and Galindo to third. Bouck followed with a single to second base and an RBI.

Clark continued the inning with a hit straight up in front of centerfield. Second baseman Ashley Heady lost the ball in the sun to give Clark the base. Finch earned an RBI driving home Clark with her single. Chicago’s momentum was halted when St. Louis caught three consecutive fly balls ending the inning at 4-0.

Massey was taken out after the damaging inning and was replaced by Jen Bruck in the fouth. Massey had zero strikeouts, 3 hits, 1 walk, and gave up 3 earned runs.

Finch tallied up another RBI in the fifth inning when she rocked a triple which brought in Lindsey Hamma, who had just entered the game. Megan Ciolli was the only Bandit to make it on base for the rest of the game. The sun was on Ciolli’s side when she had an infield double due to the short stop losing the ball in the sun.

In the very last inning of the series, the Saints put their one and only run of the weekend on the board. St. Louis pitcher Bruck was not leaving Chicago empty handed and rallied up with a triple. Natalie Peters supported Bruck by sending the ball into play, sending Bruck home to put St. Louis on the board, 5-1

In the three innings that Bruck pitched, she had 3 strikeouts, one walk, 2 hits, and one earned run.

The Bandits will be traveling out of town to play the New York / New Jersey Juggernauts the weekend of July 28-July 31. For more information, visit the Official Chicago Bandits website at
