Racers Make it Six in a Row, Sweep Canada Elite

AKRON, Ohio – Jenn Poore’s three-run double jump-started a seven-run third inning as Akron completed a four-game sweep of the Canadian Elite Team, 8-1, Sunday afternoon at Firestone Stadium.

The Racers (26-4) won their sixth straight game and remain two games behind first-place Chicago in the National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) standings.

Third baseman Crystl Bustos enjoyed a 3-for-4 day at the plate and raised her batting average to .435. She leads the league in home runs (14) and RBI (41).

Bustos led off the third inning with double and moved to third on Oli Keohohou’s single. After Jenny Topping walked, Poore unloaded a line double into the left-center field gap off Canadian starter Ashley Lanz. All three runners scored and the Racers took charge from that point on. Second baseman Tobin Echo-Hawk added a two-run single.

Jamie Southern (5-1) worked a scoreless first three innings and lowered her ERA to 0.34. Cindy Eadie delivered an RBI single for Canada in the top of the fifth.

The Racers begin a four-game series at New England Wednesday.
