Houston, Texas - Thunder continued their winning ways in front of a patient crowd at Big League Dreams Sports Park tonight, with a final score of 1-0 as they rallied in the bottom of the seventh to take game two for their second consecutive win over the Canadian National Team. Behind a complete game shut out and ten strikeouts from starter Amanda Freed, Thunder pulled out the victory in stunning fashion with a squeeze bunt to score the winning run.
The late game rally began in the bottom of the seventh as second baseman Lindsay Gardner (UT) led off with a walk and designated player Erin Evans (OU) advanced her to second with a fielders choice. Both runners then advanced one more base with aggressive base running and a timely passed ball. With two runners in scoring position, first baseman Karrie Rider (Mississippi State) laid down the squeeze on the first base side, and Gardner slid home safely to score the one and only run of the game.
With the win, Thunder improves to 21-8 on the season as they continue to climb in league standings. Thunder will battle the Canadian National Team again, Saturday, July 23 at 1:00 p.m. for game three to see if they can capture their fourth consecutive series.
