McARTHUR TOSSES NO-HITTER, RACERS WIN 7-0

AKRON, Ohio – Brandee McArthur tossed a no-hitter and Lindsey Bashor and Oli Keohohou hit home runs to lead Akron to a 7-0 win over the Canadian Elite Team Thursday evening at Firestone Stadium.

McArthur (9-1) fanned 12 and did not have a ball hit beyond the infield. The right-hander did walk three and hit one batter.

The Racers improved to 23-4 and won their third straight game. The Canadian Elite Team was shutout for the fourth time in five games against National Pro Fastpitch opponents. Chicago blanked the Canadians three times last weekend.

Canada had one runner reach third base in the second inning, but Robin Mackin was stranded.

Keohohou had an RBI single in the first inning and a two-run dinger (her third) to straight-away center field in the sixth frame. Catcher Jenny Topping delivered an RBI single in the third. Bashor belted a solo home run (her fourth) to left to lead off the fourth.

Third baseman Crystl Bustos went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI single in the sixth. Topping finished 3-for-3 with a double and two singles. Shortstop Kristin Johnson scored twice.

The Racers and Canadians play again Friday at 7:05 p.m.
