Houston, Texas-- First baseman Kristen Zaleski (Texas State) became the first Thunder player to go yard at Big League Dreams Sports Park tonight, as she belted a deep fly ball over the left field fence to increase Thunders lead to 4-0 in the bottom of the fifth. Starter Christa Williams (UT) helped pace Thunder as she tossed a complete game shut out with nine strikeouts to take game three and the series. With the win, Thunder improves to 18-8 in regular season play and claims their second consecutive series victory.
Right fielder Julie Watson (CSF) helped Thunder get on the board first tonight as she singled home designated player Monica Garza (TSU) to close out the second inning. Garza got on board with a single of her own and Watson slapped a liner up the middle to plate the first run of the game.
Thunder added another run in the third, as this time third baseman Clare Burnum (Oregon State) drove in Zaleski on a fielders choice to second base. Zaleski scored from third as she led off the inning with a triple of her own. With the run, Burnum increased her RBI total to 15 for the series.
Zaleskis home run in the fourth marked Thunders final run of the game. Williams continued to dominate as she shut out the side in the top of the seventh to give Thunder the win and clinch the series. Williams improves her record to 10-3 on the season and Flames pitcher Serena Settlemeir takes her second loss of the series. Thunder will look to take the sweep as they take on Phoenix again, Sunday, July 17 at 1:00 p.m. for game four of this regular season series.
