Bandits Shutout China Again, 3-0

Boxscore
Lisle, Ill.-- On a gorgeous Father’s Day in Lisle, Illinois, the Chicago Bandits played a game that would make their papa’s proud. The Bandits held their opponent scoreless for the 31st consecutive inning, knocking off Team China 3-0. Chicago shortstop Jaime Clark provided the majority of the Bandit offense on Sunday notching two hits and driving in two runs. Jennie Finch earned her fourth win of the season, going six strong innings.

The Bandits started their shutout streak in the final game of the previous series against Team Venezuela, and continued by keeping the Chinese team off the board for the entire four-game set.

Former Cal-Berkeley star, Vicky Galindo joined the Bandits on Sunday after a run at the NCAA Women’s College World Series, followed by an incredible stint with the US National Team. In Team USA’s Gold-Medal run at the International Sports Invitational, Galindo went eight for nine at the plate and was perfect in 12 opportunities at third.

The first inning of the Sunday afternoon contest was dominated by the pitchers. In the top of the inning, Finch recorded two strikeouts and a weak pop fly to short, and Chinese pitcher Li Qi struck out three, wrapped around a Clark single.

Finch continued the trend in the top of the second and third innings, striking out the side in both. With her second and third inning performance, Finch struck out eight of the first nine outs to start the game.

In the bottom of the inning, second baseman Gina Oaks and catcher Selena Collins reached on errors by third baseman Xin Minhong, but after center fielder Megan Ciolli struck out, first baseman Christina Enea hit a hard liner to second baseman Sun Li, who caught the shot and fired to second to record the double play.

In the next at bat, designated player Liz Bouck earned a lead off bunt single, and Galindo followed with a walk to put two runners on. After right fielder Anne Steffan struck out and the runners moved up on a wild pitch, Clark doubled to left center plating two, moving the Bandit lead to 3-0.

Clark finished the Father’s Day game, two for three, with two RBI.

Up next Finch ripped a grounder to Minhong. With Clark waiting to advance on the throw, Minhong tossed the ball across her body to Li, but her tag was late, allowing Clark to dive back in safely. However, the subsequent batters could not add to the home team’s total.

Finch continued her dominance in both the fourth and fifth innings, before allowing a bloop single to center by designated player An Zhongxin. The first Chinese base runner of the day was erased when Yu Yanhong popped up a bunt attempt, caught by Finch and fired to first to end the inning. The Arizona alum struck out one more in the sixth, before moving over to first in favor of Lindsay Chouinard.

The Bandits’ starter went six innings, striking out 11, while allowing only one hit and one walk. Chinese starter Li Qi went 2.1 innings, allowing three runs, two of which were earned, while striking out five.

Choudinard earned her first save of the season.

In her first professional game, Galindo went hitless, but scored on Clark’s double, after earning a walk.

Liz Bouck provided the only non-Jaime Clark hit for the Bandits on the afternoon, singling in the third and scoring on Clark’s double.

The Bandits will next visit the Arizona Heat in their first intra-league series of the year, beginning June 23rd. For in-game coverage visit ArizonaHeat.com.
