Racers Blank Outlaws, 13-0, Win Eighth Straight

Akron, Ohio--Jenn Poore hit two home runs and Radara McHugh tossed a one-hit shutout as the Akron Racers overwhelmed Peoria, 13-0, at Firestone Stadium.

Akron won its eighth straight game and improved to 10-1 on the season. The Racers currently are in first place in the National Pro Fastpitch standings. Peoria slipped to 5-5.

Poore, batting as the designated player, hit a solo shot in the third inning and a two-run blast to highlight a seven-run fifth frame. The former Oregon All-American has three round-trippers in the series, equaling her total from all of last season.
2004 U.S. Olympic gold medalist Jenn Topping led off the second inning with a double to left. After her Olympic teammate Kelly Kretschman walked with one out, first baseman Nicole Trimboli bunted and the resulting error enabled Topping to score from third. Kretschman later scored on a fielder's choice to make it 2-0.

Akron hung a four spot in the third and ran the score to 6-0. Shortstop Kristin Johnson singled and scored on Crystl Bustos' RBI single. Topping plated Bustos from third with a sacrifice fly. Poore homered to left center field. Kretschman then struck out, but reached first on a passed ball and later scored.

McHugh struck out seven and walked one to go to 2-0 on the season. The Racers' pitching staff has limited Peoria to five hits in 21 innings.

Ali Arnold took the loss for Peoria. Laura Johnson managed the Outlaws' only hit, a second-inning bloop single. The Racers and Outlaws play the fourth and final game of this series Sunday at 1:05.
