Thunder Bats Heat Up in 11-0 Victory Over Russians

Houston, Tex-- The Texas Thunder rolled over the Russian National Team in an 11-0 victory in front of a capacity crowd at Big League Dreams Sports Park in League City Texas tonight.

Thunder pitcher Christa Williams pitched her second shut out of the season as the team improved to 3-2 on the year.

The Thunder scored first, when centerfielder Kristen Zaleski and right fielder Kim Nesloney reached safely on bunt singles to lead off the first inning.

Second baseman Lindsay Gardner laid down the sacrifice bunt to advance the runners and third baseman Clare Burnum lined a single into right field to score Zaleski and Nesloney.

Burnum advanced to third base after the ball snuck past the Russian right fielder and she scored on a fielding error by the Russian shortstop. The Thunder closed out the inning with a 3-0 lead as the Russians looked to battle back.

Williams issued another solid pitching performance and she continued to hold the Russians scoreless into the fourth inning. She gained an insurance run when left fielder Erin Evans singled to the left side, to plate Krebs for a 4-0 lead in the fourth.

Texas added five more runs in the bottom of the fifth as Zaleski, Nesloney, Gardner, and Burnum each singled and Evans tripled to the right side. The Thunder moved up 9-0 and the game moved into the sixth inning.

The Russians were held scoreless and the Thunder added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth. Gardner and Burnum each singled with two outs and Krebs plated both runners with her second single of the game. Texas Thunder closed out the sixth inning with an 11-0 lead and Williams struck out the side in the seventh to earn her third victory of the season.

Williams pitched a one hitter on the night and the Thunder tallied 14 total hits to take the win with a final score of 11-0. Texas Thunder looks to take a 2-0 lead in the series as they battle the Russian National Team again tomorrow night, Friday, June 17, at 7:00 p.m. at Wrigley Field.
