Akron, Ohio-- The Akron Racers made it two in a row over the California Sunbirds, 13-1, Friday night thanks in large part to a two-run homer to left by Crystl Bustos, which snapped a 1-1 tie in the third inning.
For Bustos, a two-time gold medalist, it was her third round-tripper of the season and it sparked Akron to victory.
While the Racers displayed a tight defense, the win was hugely offensive. As a team, the Racers scored 13 runs off of California pitchers Aimee Woodrum and Erin Downey. Akron now has scored 46 runs in six games this season.
Other standout Akron batters were center fielder Iyhia McMichael, who scored four runs and tripled in the fourth. Left fielder Lindsey Bashor also hit a triple that scored teammates, McMichael, Kristin Johnson, and Bustos.
Pitcher Amy Kyler, now 2-1, struckout 10 and yielded four hits in going the distance.
As the team advances to 5-1 season, they will seek to improve in the third game of this series against the Sunbirds, Saturday afternoon at 1:05 p.m., at Firestone.
