SAN MARCOS, TX (August 5, 2017) — Lauren Haeger’s game-winning hit resurrected her team Saturday during Dia De Los Charge Saturday night against the Chicago Bandits at Texas State’s Bobcat Stadium.
The Florida alum came up to bat in the bottom of the seventh with the score knotted at 3-3 and stroked an RBI single back up the middle to secure a walk-off win for the Charge (21-23). The Bandits fell to 22-20 on the season with the setback.
Texas fell behind 3-0 in the top of the fourth following a three-run homer by Chicago’s Megan Blank that cleared the fence in center field.
The Charge responded in the bottom half of the frame with an RBI single from Kylee Lahners and another RBI base hit off the bat of catcher Kristyn Sandberg.
Texas then launched a rally in the bottom of the seventh that featured a leadoff single from Sandberg and an error by the Bandits. Taylor Gadbois delivered the game-tying RBI single before Haeger walked it off with her own base hit.
Haeger also earned the win from the pitcher’s circle after tossing seven innings and striking out nine. All three of the runs against her were unearned.
Reliever Lacey Waldrop took the loss for Chicago.
The two teams meet again Sunday at 1:05 p.m. as the chase for the postseason continues.
