Kissimmee, FL (July 20, 2016) - The USSSA Florida Pride is excited to announce the signing of Florida great Aubree Munro to a three-year contract. Munro was selected 39th overall in the 2016 National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) Draft this past April and joins three former Gators, who she shared the 2014 title of National Champions with in her sophomore season.
“I'm so excited to officially sign with the Pride and play the game at the professional stage. I'm excited to work with such an experienced and talented staff of pitchers and to finally join the team. It's going to be really fun to play with former teammates and meet a lot of new ones.”
With the signing of Munro, she becomes the 6th Gator to sign with the USSSA Pride since its inaugural season in 2009 and the 14th Florida softball player to be affiliated with the National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) league.
A constant threat behind the plate, Munro was named a 2014 and 2015 WCWS All-Tournament Team selection at catcher and entered the 2016 season tied for 2nd all-time in program history in fielding percentage (859-70-3).
"The Pride has a history of outstanding catchers and I'm excited to add Aubree to that list," explained Don DeDonatis, USSSA Florida Pride General Manager. "I have always believed that the catcher controls the game and with the addition of Munro, arguably the best catcher in college, to the Pride core of catchers, it solidifies our 2016 roster and puts us in the best position to win our next Cowles Cup Championship."
The back-to-back NCAA WCWS National Champion (2014 & 2015) played four years under esteemed Florida Head Coach Tim Walton and will go down in the NCAA softball history books as one of the best to play behind the plate.
"Aubree is one of those athletes that, as long as she wants to play, she's always going to continue to get better. She's very disciplined, she understands what she's really good at, she takes a lot of pride in her defense and any time she gains confidence, she hits. I think at first, playing professionally is going to be a humbling experience for Aubree, but as she continues to get better, as she continues to grow, as she continues to get stronger and gain confidence, she is one of those typical professional softball athletes that is only going to get better with age," commented Florida Head Coach Tim Walton.
This August, watch the USSSA Pride compete for the 2016 NPF Championship Series in Tuscaloosa from August 19-23. Get your tickets at profastpitch.com.
