Chicago Bandits Series Preview No. 7 - At the Dallas Charge

Chicago Bandits vs. Dallas Charge Game 1

ROSEMONT, IL (June 24, 2016) – The Bandits will continue their seven-game road trip with a quick two-game series against the Dallas Charge at St. Mary’s Softball Stadium in San Antonio, with first pitch in the opener set for 7 p.m. on Friday.

The Bandits (9-8) will look to rebound following a series loss to the Scrap Yard Dawgs, which saw the Bandits get outscored 19-11 over three games. After starting the season 4-3, including a road series win over the Bandits, Dallas (4-11) has lost eight consecutive games to drop to the bottom spot in the league standings.

Dallas currently leads the season series by a 2-1 count, much in part to Lauren Haeger’s efforts in the circle. After a complete game performance in the series opener on June 8 in which Haeger did not allow an earned run, she tossed two more innings in the finale to help secure a 6-5 win for the Charge.

In the earlier series against the Charge, Brittany Cervantes and Emily Allard sparked the Bandits’ offense. Cervantes, making her return from her season overseas in Japan, hit .455 over three games and drove in four runs, including a pair of RBI-singles in a 10-2 Bandits win. Allard, who is currently not available due to an injury suffered last week, went 5-for-9 at the plate with three runs scored in the first three games against the Charge.
Lacey Waldrop picked up the lone win of the series for the Bandits, but Michelle Gascoigne and Shelby Turnier each delivered complete games in their starts.

The Bandits are coming off a tough series loss to the Scrap Yard Dawgs in which Monica Abbott shut them down twice. Abbott earned her fourth and fifth wins of the season by tossing 12.2 scoreless innings and allowing just nine hits. However, Natalie Hernandez was one bright spot for the Bandits, recording a multi-hit effort in the series finale and a two-RBI double in the series.

Dallas has hit a rough patch, having lost their last eight, including two shutouts. The Charge has been outscored 50-17 in that span.

Both games in the upcoming series will be broadcast on NPFTV and Friday's game will be on 1590 WCGO. The series opener will be available at no cost on NPFTV.

Players to Watch
Jill Barrett has continued to hit at a torrid pace for the Bandits in the top third of the order. The third-year shortstop ranks among the top three on the team in numerous offensive statistical categories, including: batting average (.391), hits (25), on-base percentage (.443), runs scored (10) and doubles (3). In game two against the Dawgs on Wednesday, Barrett recorded her 10th multi-hit effort of the season.

Although she has lost three consecutive decisions, Lauren Haeger has been impressive for the Charge in her second season. Haeger, who was selected 21st overall in the 2015 NPF Draft, has led the Charge with her bat and her glove. On the offensive end, she is pacing the Charge with four home runs and 12 RBI while slugging .568. In the circle, she has been equally as impressive, tossing three complete games and leading the team in innings pitched (35.1) and strikeouts (29).
