TUCSON, Ariz. The NY/NJ Juggernaut picked up a critical win in the race for second place over the Arizona Heat 8-4 on Monday night at Hi Corbett Field. The Juggernaut came into the game trailing second-place Akron by 1.5 games with just four games remaining.
Kaci Clark pitched a complete-game allowing four runs on five hits over seven innings. She struck out seven batters in picking up her tenth victory of the season while Heat pitcher Erica Beach picked up the loss.
The loss was disappointing for Arizona as the Heat held a 3-0 lead going into the fourth inning. They picked up three early runs in the bottom of the second inning, making it seem that they would not be pushed over by the playoff-headed Juggernaut.
Ten hits and four errors later, NY/NJ got things back on track and chased Beach (6-8) from the game.
The game was marred by an ejection from home-plate umpire of Heat assistant coach Ted Farhat for arguing some calls by the official.
Kellie Wilkerson led the Juggernaut offensively going 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. She also had a stolen base. Gina Oaks was also 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
The Juggernaut and Heat square off in a doubleheader on Tuesday, Aug. 17, with the first game set for 6:05 p.m. The second game is scheduled to start at 8:35 p.m.
