Hoover, AL. – August 15, 2015 - The USSA Pride beat the charging Dallas Charge 8-7 Saturday evening in front of an announced crowd of 1,995. The winning pitcher for the Pride was the starting pitcher Chelsea Thomas. She went four innings, giving up three runs on three hits. She also had two walks and one strike out. Jolene Henderson was the losing pitcher giving up three runs in 2/3 of an inning before being struck in the eye by a line drive off the bat of Madison Shipman. Jordan Taylor got the save for the Pride giving up two runs and striking out two in two innings.
The Pride struck first with three runs in the first inning. They added another in the third to extend the lead to 4 to 0. The Charge came back with two runs in the fourth when Brianna Cherry hit a 2 RBI single cutting the lead in half. Then in the top of the fifth Renada Davis hit a solo home run for the Charge to bring the score to 4 to 3.
The Pride came right back with four runs in the bottom of the fifth. Shelby Pendley hit a two run home run. Natasha Whatley singled to right scoring Shipman. Courtney Ceo later scored on a throwing error by catcher Kaylyn Castillo, giving the Pride an 8 to 3 lead.
Down by 5 with just six outs left and their season on the line, the Charge fought back scoring two runs in the top of the top of the sixth. Then in the top of the seventh, with one out and Nadia Taylor on first, Taylor Thom homered cutting their deficit to one.
Jordan Taylor, for the Pride would settle down though retiring the last two batters. Saving the game for the Pride and giving them the 2-0 sweep over the Charge. The Pride advance to the Finals of the NPF Championship tournament and will square off against the Chicago Bandits.
Pride fifth and sixth hitters, Pendley and Shipman, went a combined 10 for 13 with 2 home runs and 8 RBI’s.
Game 1 will be Sunday at 2pm at The Hoover Met. Game 2 will be Monday at 7pm. Game 3, if necessary, will be Tuesday at 7pm.
