Washington, PA – July 24, 2014 - Sarah Pauly and The Pennsylvania Rebellion, presented by the Coury Financial Group, gave a valiant effort opposite the visiting Chicago Bandits at CONSOL Energy Park. Unfortunately, a pair of solo blasts from Chicago’s Megan Wiggins and Tammy Williams was enough to propel the Bandits to a 3-1 victory over the Rebellion Thursday.
Wiggins put the Bandits on the board first with a leadoff homer in the first, while teammate Williams gave the Bandits the go ahead in the fourth. Both homers proved to be the only earned runs Pauly allowed in her complete game for the Rebellion.
In all, the Rebellion ace gave up three runs on six hits and fanned four in the losing effort. In her seven innings, Pauly threw 18 first pitch strikes to 28 batters faced and even retired the side during four innings. Sara Moulton was tagged with the win for the Bandits, holding the Rebellion to just one run on four hits.
The Rebellion’s lone run came in the second, as second baseman Lauren Lappin singled to score first baseman Courtney Liddle. Lappin was a bright spot for the Rebellion offense, batting 3-3 with an RBI on the night.
Defensively, Samantha Garcia put on show for the Rebellion. The centerfielder flashed the leather an impressive three times to prevent the threatening Bandits from causing further damage in the contest.
