Washington, PA - July 16, 2014 - The Pennsylvania Rebellion, presented by The Coury Financial Group, clung to a short lead for most of the contest, but a strong push late in the game by the visiting the Akron Racers resulted in a 2-1 defeat. Sarah Pauly took the loss for the Rebellion while Lisa Norris earned the win.
The Rebellion’s lone run came in the bottom of the first inning when designated player Courtney Liddle rocketed a double into left that scored left fielder Brittney Lindley.
On the defensive side, catcher Taylor Edwards helped her pitcher immensely by throwing out two Racers on the base paths. The rest of the Rebellion defense showed some flair as they clung to their 1-0 lead heading into the sixth inning.
As shutdown as the Rebellion defense was, however, it is very difficult to defend against a home run. The Racers capitalized on the long ball in the top of the sixth when second baseman Ashley Thomas and shortstop Nerissa Myers each knocked a solo home run to tie and eventually overtook the Rebellion, giving Racers a 2-1 lead late in the contest.
The one-run deficit was too much to overcome in the bottom of the seventh for the Rebellion, giving the contest to the Racers and marking the Rebellion’s sixth-straight loss.
The Rebellion look to snap this recent losing-streak as they take on the Racers in game two of the four-game series on Thursday, July 17. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. EDT. For tickets and/or group packages, contact the CONSOL Energy Park Box Office at 724.250.7412.
