TUCSON, Ariz. The Arizona Heat dropped their second game of their home series against league-leaders Akron 2-1 before 751 fans at Hi Corbett Field.
Nikki Myers earned her sixth win of the season allowing four hits and one run while striking out three.
With two outs in the top of the second, Akrons Jenn Poore hit a solo-homerun that just cleared the top of the left field fence giving the Racers a 1-0 lead.
Arizona answered back in the bottom of the fourth when a bases-loaded Nancy Evans ground ball scored pinch-runner Rebekah Quiroz to make it a 1-1 ballgame.
In the top of the seventh, Poore reached first base on an error by centerfielder Cheryl Bolding. After two singles to load the bases, Akrons Brandi Stuart hit a sac-fly to score the winning run.
Monica Triner picked up her ninth loss of the season in the complete-game effort. She allowed eight hits and two runs. She also recorded one strikeout while limiting Akrons one through four hitters to a combined 1 for 10.
Akron was led by Poore who was 1 for 2 with a homerun, an RBI and one run scored. Becky Turi led the Heat going 2 for 3.
Arizona (11-25) and Akron (23-10) play their series finale on Wednesday night at 7:35.
