HOUSTON, TX The second game match up between the Texas Thunder and the New England Riptide got off to a quick start, as the Riptide came out and scored in the top half of the first inning.
The Thunder quickly bounced back in the bottom of the third, as Lindsay Gardner (Texas, 2-for-3, R) started off the inning with a single shot to center field. Clare Burnum (Oregon State, 1-for-2) immediately followed with a line-drive single to center advancing Gardner to second base. Gardner then snuck by Riptide catcher Jessica Allister (Stanford) with a delayed steal to third.
Marissa Young (Michigan, 1-for-2, RBI) then laid down the sacrifice squeeze scoring Gardner to tie the ball game.
The Riptide fought back to retire the inning and the Thunder threat. But, it wouldnt take long for the Thunder to strike again. In the bottom of the sixth, the Thunders Amanda Buchholz (Nebraska, 1-for-1, R) reached first with one out when she was hit by a wild pitch. After coming in to pinch-hit for Erin Evans, former Texas Aggie Selena Collins (1-for-1, 2 RBI) blasted a homerun out of right-center field, scoring two Thunder runs. That would be all that the Thunder would need to retire the Riptide for the second time of the series.
Lindsay Chouinard picks up a no-hitter bringing her to a 5-4 record. The Texas Thunder move to 21-11 on the season. The Thunder will wrap up the series with the Riptide Wednesday July 21 at 7:35 p.m.
