ROSEMONT, Ill. – Andi Williamson opened her tenure with the Chicago Bandits Wednesday night with a bang, throwing a complete game and only allowing one run. The Bandits used strong offensive firepower to go on to defeat the Racers 7-1 on the Opening Day of the 2013 National Pro Fastpitch season.
Chicago’s offense got off to a quick start with a run in the bottom of the first, after Megan Wiggins got on base with a leadoff double and Alisa Goler batted her in with a single up the middle.
“I thought tonight’s game went really well,” said Wiggins. “With it being the first game of the season, we obviously have some things to improve on but overall we executed, played great defense and put the ball in play so we can only go up from here.”
The Racers tied it in the second after Kelley Montalvo’s triple to right field allowed a runner to score.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Bandits had a huge offensive surge, sparked by Vicky Galindo’s single up the middle with the bases loaded allowing pinch runner Maggie Hull to score. The bases were still loaded when Wiggins stepped up to the plate and delivered a bases-clearing double to left field. Amber Patton hit a double to center field, plating Wiggins and increasing the score to 6-1.
The Bandits struck again in the bottom of the fifth inning after Tammy Williams singled and stole second on a wild pitch. Galindo picked up her second RBI of the night with a single to right field, which allowed Williams to score, making the score 7-1 heading into the sixth. No more runs were scored in the sixth and seventh innings as Williamson and the Bandits earned their first victory of the season.
The Bandits return to the Ballpark at Rosemont tomorrow, June 6 for the second game of the four-game series against the Racers. First pitch is set for 7:05 pm. For more information about the Chicago Bandits, or to order tickets for the 2013 season, visit www.chicagobandits.com or call 877-722-6348.
