LITTLE FALLS, NJ – In front of a crowd over 1000, NY/NJ Juggernaut (22-11) starting pitcher Kaci Clark pitched the first no-hitter in Juggernaut history in a 2-0 win over the Arizona Heat (10-22). Clark pitched seven full innings, giving up no runs on no hits, three walks and seven strikeouts. Clark’s no-hitter is also the third in NPF history. Texas pitcher Christa Williams and New England ace Leigh Ann Ellis have each thrown a no-hitter this year.

The Juggernaut secured the sweep and broke through against Arizona starter Tarrah Beyster in the fifth inning when second baseman Carri Leto scored on a two-out single by shortstop Lyndsey Klein. Beyster hit Leto with a pitch to lead off the inning, and the combination of a sacrifice bunt by third baseman Gina Oaks and a basehit to left by right fielder Laura Harms put Leto in scoring position for Klein. Harms led the Nauts offensively, going 3-for-3 on the night and Klein went 1-for-3 with an RBI. Beyster pitched six full innings for the Heat, giving up two runs on eight hits, one walk and no strikeouts.

Nauts pinch hitter Germaine Fairchild brought in an insurance run in the sixth with a double to right field that scored pinch runner Jaclyn Pasquerella. Fairchild was 1-for-1 with an RBI. NY/NJ also had bases loaded and no outs in the first inning, but failed to score. A leadoff walk to Oaks, a basehit by Harms, and a bunt-hit by leftfielder Lauren Bauer set the stage for the middle of the lineup. However, Beyster escaped trouble by getting Klein to pop up, first baseman Kellie Wilkerson to ground out, and designated player Lisa Iancin to fly out to center.

Seven Juggernaut players will now go to Oklahoma City where they will take part in the 2004 NPF All-Star Game. Wilkerson, Leto, Klein, Pasquerella, Oaks, pitcher Amanda Scott, and catcher Lindsey Collins were all selected to the All-Star Game. The NPF East will take on Team USA on Tuesday July 13th, and the NPF West All-Stars on Wednesday July 14th.
