Orlando, Fla. -- After a bases loaded walk brought home the first run, Bandits left fielder Jamee Juarez beat out a fielders choice infield single to drive in the second run of the first inning for the Bandits, giving Chicago an early 2-0 lead.
Behind the strong, complete game three-hit pitching of Nikki Nemitz and an offensive spark that put six hits and three runs on the board, the Chicago Bandits went on to beat the Pride 3-0 for their first win of the season.
The Bandits’ bats stayed alive into the fifth inning when Danielle Zymkowitz reached first base on an error by Andrea Duran and proceeded to steal second base. Bandits third baseman Amber Patton blasted a single down the left field line, bringing Zymkowitz home to score for the 3-0 lead. Patton reached second on the play but was stranded as Pride pitcher Sarah Pauly ended the inning.
With back to back singles in the top of the sixth, the Bandits threatened the score board again, but Pauly escaped the inning by stranding both runners.
From the defensive side of the field the Bandits flashed the leather in the bottom of the sixth when Zymkowitz snagged a hard grounder up the middle, flipped it to Kristen Shifflett at second base who then threw to Dorian Shaw at first for the double play.
Nemitz would hold tough, striking out five and allowing just three hits en route to her first win of the 2011 season.
