MARION, Ill. - The Southern Illinois Miners are excited to announce that Rent One Park will host four games of the National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) women’s softball league this summer. The defending champion USSSA Florida Pride will take on the NPF Diamonds in a four-game series on July 8-10.
The NPF is a four-team professional women’s softball league which features the nation’s top female professional softball players. The Pride’s roster boasts eight former Olympic athletes including Team USA gold medalists Cat Osterman, Kelly Kretschman, Natasha Watley and Jessica Mendoza as well as 2008 Canadian Olympic Team member, Danielle Lawrie. In addition to the Pride and the Diamonds, the league features teams in Chicago and Akron.
The weekend will kickoff with a welcome banquet in the Rent One Park banquet room on Thursday, July 7 at 7 p.m. The dinner will feature players from both teams. Tickets are $20 per person and available at the Rent One Park box office.
The four-game series will begin with a single game on Friday, July 8 at 7:05 p.m. Saturday, July 9 will feature two games scheduled to begin at 2:05 p.m. and 6:35 p.m., and the series will conclude with a 2:05 p.m. game on Sunday, July 10. Tickets to each game will be available at the Rent One Park box office for $7 per game or $20 for the entire four-game series. Fans can also purchase a ticket for $12 that will be good for both games on Saturday.
“We thought this was a great opportunity for us to introduce professional women’s softball to Southern Illinois and show the versatility of Rent One Park,” Miners Executive Vice President and COO Erik Haag said. “Our goal is to capitalize on the partnership with the National Pro Fastpitch league and host high school and college softball as well as create travel team tournaments at Rent One Park.”
In addition to the games and the banquet, the NPF players will host a clinic for youth softball players on Saturday, July 9 from 9 a.m. until noon. Tickets to the clinic will be $50 per person.
“Exposing the extraordinarily talented women of the NPF to new audiences across the country is one of our goals,” NPF Commissioner Cheri Kempf said. “We are thrilled to be coming to Rent One Park. NPF players are entertaining and inspiring, and I am hopeful that every fan within traveling distance will take advantage of the opportunity to spend some time with us this summer in Marion.”
