Lowell, Mass. The New York/New Jersey Juggernaut (14-7) completed a three game sweep of the New England Riptide (7-14) tonight with a 4-0 win. Gina Oaks (5-3) went the distance tonight, pitching six innings to record her fifth win of the season. Riptide ace, Cal-Berkeley graduate and former NCAA National Champion, Jocelyn Forest, suffered the loss. Oaks dominant performance on the mound included a one hit shutout and seven strikeouts. The Nauts are now 8-1 versus the Riptide on the season. Wilkerson went in to pitch the seventh tonight, making her first appearance of the season and striking out one batter.
Riptide starter, Forest, got into some trouble in the top of the first after she walked three straight batters to load the bases with one out. Shortstop Lyndsey Kleins RBI single up the middle put the Nauts on board, 1-0 and proved to be the only run they would need to earn the victory. With two outs, Forest walked the fourth batter of inning, Cal-Berkeley teammate Courtney Scott, to walk in a run. On the next pitch, Venus Taylor ripped a single to left field to score designated player Lisa Iancin. Jaclyn Pasquerella followed with a single up the middle to score the fourth run of the inning. The Nauts batted around the lineup in the first inning scoring four runs on three hits and 4 walks.
The Nauts finished the game with nine hits. They were led offensively by third baseman Jaclyn Pasquerella (3-for-3, RBI) and left fielder Lauren Bauer (2-for-3, Run).
The Nauts continue their nine game road trip on Sunday at 1:05 p.m. versus the Akron Racers. In their last meeting in New Jersey, the Racers took 2 out of 3 games from the Nauts. After their three game series against the Racers, the Nauts will travel to Stockton, CA to face the California Sunbirds.
