MONTCLAIR, NJ - The Arizona Heat's series opening game against the NY/NJ Juggernaut was cancelled this evening due to heavy rain. The teams will try and play a doubleheader tomorrow evening beginning at 5:05 p.m. EDT.
The forecast in the Northeast is not promising for the next 24 hours, with heavy rains expected to continue well into tomorrow night. If the teams are unable to get all three games in while in Montclair, the final game will be made up when the Juggernaut travel to Tucson to take on the Heat in the final series of the season.
This series may play a pivotal role in the playoffs, for both the Heat and the Juggernaut. The Heat currently trail the New England Riptide by 4.5 games for the final playoff spot, while the Juggernaut sit just two games out of first place, trailing only the Thunder and the Racers.
In the Heat's last time out, they defeated the Riptide behind the solid pitching efforts of the recently acquired Danielle Henderson. Henderson is 2-0 since joining the Heat with wins coming against the league-leading Akron Racers and the Riptide.
Entering the series with the Heat, the Juggernaut have lost two straight games and were trailing in the series finale with the Thunder, before the game was called due to weather and travel restraints.
Amanda Scott is expected to take the mound for the Juggernaut in the first game of the doubleheader, while Erica Beach is expected to start for the Heat. In game two, the Nauts will send Kaci Clark to the mound opposing the Heat's Tarrah Beyster. The second game of the doubleheader will begin at approximately 7:35 p.m. EDT.
