Stockton, Calif. – The California Sunbirds lost the rubber game of their three game series with the visiting Arizona Heat as they fell 5-1 on Tuesday, June 22. With the loss the Sunbirds fall to 5-12 overall while the Heat improved their record to 7-10.

The Sunbirds were unable to get anything going against the Heat for the despite showing patience at the plate and making solid contact on every ball put into play. California pushed across their lone run of the ballgame in the seventh inning as they took advantage of a tiring Mo Triner, Arizona’s starter, who gave up two of her six hits in the inning and threw a wild pitch which put the Sunbird’s runners in scoring position.

The nights play was dominated by the Heat’s hitting as they plated five runs on ten hits. Arizona was led by Wendy Allen as she went 3-for-4 with a homerun and two doubles that each hit the top of the fence. Sara Pickering caught fire as well for the Heat as she also went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two Rbis.

The Sunbirds will be back in action tomorrow, June 23, as they travel to Arizona to start a three game road series. The Birds will be back in Stockton, Calif. on Sunday June 27 as they start a six game home stand beginning with the New England Riptide.
