MCMICHAEL’S TWO-RUN HOMERUN LEADS RACERS TO VICTORY OVER FIRST PLACE TEXAS THUNDER

AKRON, Ohio – Iyhia McMichael’s two-run home run in the bottom of the third inning powered the Akron Racers to a 2-0 victory over the first-place Texas Thunder on Monday evening at Firestone Stadium. The blast was the first of McMichael’s pro career and was the first homerun hit in Firestone Stadium this season.

The game was scoreless through two and a half innings until catcher Dana Degen beat out a single to the left side of the infield. McMichael capitalized on the opportunity, sending Peaches James’ offering to deep left field, giving Akron all the offense it would need to earn its 9th victory of the season.

Custom Sports Imprints Player of the Game, Danielle Henderson, worked her second complete game in the pitcher’s circle, allowing no runs on just three hits while striking out eight Texas batters en route to her third win of the year.

McMichael was one-for-two on the day, as she also drew a walk in the sixth. Showing that she’s more than just a power-hitter, McMichael swiped second for her third stolen base of the season. McMichael improves her batting average to .361 with a .444 slugging percentage. Her two-run homerun was the Summa Health Care Play of the Game.

The Racers look to take the series from the Thunder tomorrow, June 22, as they play game three at 7:05 p.m. at Firestone Stadium. For more information, call 330-376-8188 or log on to www.akronracers.org.
