ROSEMONT, Ill. (October 16, 2017) – The Chicago Bandits have re-signed shortstop Abby Ramirez to a one-year deal ahead of the 2018 season, team officials announced on Monday afternoon.

Ramirez batted .243 and added 14 RBI across 41 games in her rookie campaign with the Bandits.

“Abby stepped in and became a reliable, consistent performer on the offensive end for us last season,” Bandits general manager Toni Calmeyn said. “We’re excited to bring her back and see her continue to develop.”

Ramirez initially signed with the Bandits on May 30, 2017 as an undrafted free agent following the conclusion of her senior season at the University of Michigan. The Chicago native and 2013 Illinois Gatorade Softball Player of the Year made an immediate impression at the professional level, hitting safely in five of her first six games while tallying five RBI.

During her rookie season in the NPF, Ramirez enjoyed a high degree of success against right-handed pitching, holding a .284 split.

At the collegiate level, Ramirez became a staple in Michigan’s lineup and helped guide the Wolverines to their 23rd consecutive NCAA Tournament in her final year. The lefty slapper hit at a .370 clip and showcased her ability to impact the game in multiple ways, swiping 16 bases in 18 attempts.

Ramirez is the latest name added to a list of talented middle infielders who have signed with the Bandits for the upcoming season, joining All-NPF second baseman Emily Carosone and Team USA shortstop Delaney Spaulding.

The four-time Cowles Cup champion Chicago Bandits will be back at The Ballpark at Rosemont for the 2018 season. For more information about the Chicago Bandits or to reserve your season tickets, please visit chicagobandits.com or call the box office at 877-722-6348.
